The Hidden Truth About Success: Why the Grind Isn’t Always Glorious

Hey, legends!

We all see it, don’t we? The flashy cars, the shredded bodies, the ‘perfect’ lives plastered all over social media. It’s easy to look at a celebrity or someone driving a G-Wagon and think, “Man, they’re so lucky. I wish I had that life” but is that real success? We often forget we’re only looking at the result.

But here’s the thing we often forget, we’re only looking at the result. We want the reward, but nobody wants to do the work it takes to get there. Especially if they don’t even know what that work really is.

The 1% Illusion – Climbing the Wrong Mountain

When we eye off someone’s success, we’re looking at about 1% of the picture, the end result. It’s the top of the mountain. We all want to summit Mount Everest, but let’s be honest, no one wants to do the training to get there.

You see the six-pack, but you don’t see the years of disciplined nutrition, the early morning workouts, or sometimes, even the unhealthy extremes people go to for that look. You see the beautiful house or the work success, but you don’t see the grind, the sacrifices, or the hidden costs.

If you laid out someone’s life on the ground and looked at what it really took to get to where they are, you’d see it’s nothing like it seems on social media. It’s nowhere near as amazing as you imagine waking up in that house, unless you earnt it.

Climbing the Wrong Ladder – The Cost of Chasing the “Expected”

What do I mean by that? So many people are relentlessly climbing this corporate ladder, chasing money, and neglecting everything in their life that actually means something to them. They’re working long hours, alienating themselves from their family, pushing their body to the limits. They’re doing everything to get this material reward. Money, status, a nice car but at the expense of the things that truly fill them up! Love, genuine connection, health, and authentic happiness.

Take those six-pack abs I mentioned. Growing up, I desperately wanted them. I was so jealous of my mates who had them. I didn’t know anything about nutrition until I was about 16, so I couldn’t understand how people got them.

Then, as I learned and got into the fitness world, I realised that many people get that ‘ripped’ look through extreme measure. Starving themselves, dehydrating for days leading up to a competition. When I looked at the amount of calories they cut and the sacrifices they made. I was like, “Oh, I don’t want any of that.”

It took me understanding more than just the end result to really evaluate the whole picture and say, “Actually, that’s not what I want.”

Finding Your Own Mountain – Passion, Purpose, and Real Joy

I don’t think enough of us are doing that for the things we’re chasing in life. There’s no point climbing to the very top of the ladder just to get up there and realise you were climbing the wrong ladder all along.

It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes it’s worth going and starting from the bottom, if that ‘bottom’ is in the right area for you. If it’s in the area that fills you with passion and joy leading you towards real success for you.

I never knew what it was like to work on something you’re absolutely super passionate about, something you love to your core. Until I started to lean into my coursework, my mindset, and my personal development. But not just my own journey. It was when I started creating stuff to help other people see this path that everything clicked.

We can’t know everything, we’re not AI, we’re not chatbots, but we can become experts in our fields of passion. For so long, my field of passion has been a healthy mind and being the best version of myself. For me, and also for those who are important to me.

Having an opportunity now to share that with other people fills me with a sense of passion and drive that I’ve never had before in my life. I wake up every morning excited for what I can make and create in purpose of serving others. And I don’t think I’ve ever had more of a purpose to live than that. That’s a really, really special thing.
